28-year-old charged in hit-and-run that left teen with serious injuries

A 28-year-old Bergen County man was charged in a hit and run that left a 17-year-old with serious injuries, officials announced Thursday.
The Fort Lee man was charged with third-degree counts of knowingly leaving the scene of an accident resulting in injury and hindering apprehension, and fourth-degree counts of obstructing justice and tampering with physical evidence, Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office officials said.
Palisades Park Police responded to an emergency call at about 6:40 a.m. on Oct. 14 for a report of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle on Brinkerhoff Avenue, authorities said.
Officers found a 17-year-old victim from Fort Lee at the scene and the vehicle involved in the incident had already left, authorities said.
The victim was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries, according to authorities.
An investigation revealed that a car struck the teenager while attempting to cross Brinkerhoff Avenue at the intersection of 14th Street, authorities said.
The 28-year-old suspect was accused of operating the car at the time of the incident, officials said. The car the man was driving was found a month later with repairs made in an effort to conceal the damage from the hit-and-run incident, authorities said.
The man was arrested and charged on Wednesday, authorities said.
No further details on the investigation were shared by authorities Thursday. The teenager’s current condition was not released.
